GUILDは”アンティーク”に深く関わっており
現地でのセレクトから、当時の製作工法や仕上げを
長年研究してきました。
アンティークの魅力というのは
アンティークと呼ばれるほど経過した長い時間に
大切に使われて刻み込まれたその表情にあります。
時間は操作することはできません。。
ですが、それまで培ってきた情報と技術と素材があります。
その全てに徹底的に向き合い、再現ではない”精品”を
新たに生み出すことがGUILDのものづくりです。
今回はパリにある老舗のブティックで使われていたような
ディスプレイカウンター、というコンセプトプロダクトです。
まずは針葉樹系の無垢材をフランス古来の装飾形状に削り出し
ヨーロッパの伝統的な技法である、木目を活かした染色と
飴色に輝くニスで仕上げて、家具を完成させます。
つぎは、経年変化を刻む作業です。
何年も使用していく上でダメージを受けるであろうところに
傷や欠けや打痕などを入れていきます。
日に当たり人が触れるであろうところを退色させていくことで
よく使うところはより褪せて、隙間や奥まったところは色が残り
自然な濃淡のある表情を生み出します。
シチュエーションを想像し偽りなく慎重に。。
もちろんアンティークではないので
使用方法に合わせたサイジングや収納計画も
完璧に備わっていることが前提です。
これはアンティークが時間をかけて作り出したストーリーに
敬意を払い、新たに生み出されたGUILDの”精品”です。
GUILD is deeply involved in antiques and has spent many years
studying the manufacturing methods and finishing techniques
of the time, selecting items locally.
The charm of antiques lies in the look that has been carved
into them through careful use over the long period of time
that has passed before they are called antiques.
Time cannot be manipulated.
But we do have the information, technology, and materials
that we have cultivated over the years.
GUILD's manufacturing philosophy is to thoroughly address
all of this and create new "masterpieces" that are not reproductions.
This time, the concept product is a display counter like those used
in long-established boutiques in Paris.
First, solid coniferous wood is carved into traditional French
decorative shapes, and then the furniture is completed
using traditional European techniques of dyeing that brings out
the wood grain and varnishing with a shiny amber color.
Next comes the process of carving out the changes
that occur over time. We add scratches, chips and dents to areas
that will likely be damaged over the years of use, and fade areas
that will be exposed to sunlight and touched by people, so
that the areas that are used most often fade more, while the color
remains in the gaps and recessed areas, creating a natural look
with varying shades. We do this carefully and authentically,
imagining the situation.
Of course, since it is not an antique, it is assumed that the sizing
and storage plan are perfectly designed to suit its intended use.
This is a newly created GUILD "masterpiece" that pays homage
to the stories that antiques have created over time.
